Toy Recall & Safety Watch: Oct. 19-26, 2026

Toy Recall & Safety Watch: Oct. 19-26, 2026

Halloween week brought two U.S. recalls of light-up toys whose button batteries children can get to easily, a recall of a convertible high chair sold at Walmart and Target, and a federal warning about water-bead squishy toys whose distributor has not offered a remedy. In Canada, Health Canada recalled baby nests and loungers, two "balloon blowing" toy kits made with solvents, and a child bicycle seat. Every item below comes from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) or Health Canada, and each agency's instructions are quoted exactly as published. We checked both agencies' recall lists on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026.

United States (CPSC)

1. CIYTI Light-Up Princess Costumes (CPSC recall 27-038, Oct. 22, 2026)

  • Units: About 94
  • Hazard (CPSC): "The costumes violate the mandatory safety standard for toys because the button cell batteries can be accessed easily by children, posing a deadly ingestion hazard."
  • Sold: Online at Amazon from February 2025 through June 2025 for between $21 and $35.
  • How to identify it: A blue dress with a light-up crown and wand, plus a remote control. The crowns, scepters and remote controls contain button batteries. There are no markings on the product. The package has "CIYTI" on the front. CPSC lists no model number, UPC or ASIN.
  • Remedy (quoted from CPSC): "Consumers should take the princess costumes away from children immediately, stop using them and contact FoShanShiNanHaiQuNuoAiTongZhuangShangHang for a full refund. Consumers will be asked to write "RECALLED" with permanent marker on the dress, crown, wand, and remote, then throw away the toys and submit a photo of the disposed toys to [the email address listed on the CPSC notice]. Note: Button cell batteries are hazardous. Batteries should be disposed of or recycled by following local hazardous waste procedures."
  • Injuries: None reported.
  • Firm: FoShanShiNanHaiQuNuoAiTongZhuangShangHang, of China.
  • Read the CPSC recall notice

2. Bamamon LED Projecting Finger Light Toys (CPSC recall 27-042, Oct. 22, 2026)

  • Units: About 6,533
  • Hazard (CPSC): "The recalled finger lights violate the mandatory standard for toys because they contain button cell batteries and the compartments that hold the batteries can be easily accessed by children, posing a deadly ingestion hazard to children."
  • Sold: Amazon.com from March 2025 through August 2026 for about $13 to $14.
  • How to identify it: Each finger light contains three button cell batteries. They come 32 to a box in red, orange, blue, black, purple, clear, green and yellow, and project eight space-themed patterns such as astronauts, rockets, a UFO, a galaxy and solar systems, which are printed on labels on the front of the package. CPSC lists no model number, UPC or ASIN.
  • Remedy (quoted from CPSC): "Consumers should stop using the toys immediately and contact Bamamon. Consumers will be asked to email a photograph showing the product being properly disposed of in the trash to [the email address listed on the CPSC notice]. Note: Button cell batteries are hazardous. Batteries should be disposed of or recycled by following local hazardous waste procedures." CPSC lists the remedy type as a refund.
  • Injuries: None reported.
  • Firm: Shenzhen Maiduoduo Trading Technology Co., Ltd., dba Bamamon, of China.

3. Costway Convertible High Chairs (CPSC recall 27-040, Oct. 22, 2026)

  • Units: About 3,332
  • Hazard (CPSC): "The convertible high chairs violate the mandatory safety standard for high chairs because they do not contain a passive restraint system and a child can slip through the opening between the feeding tray and seat and become entrapped or fall, posing a risk of serious injury or death."
  • Sold: Walmart and Target stores nationwide and online at Costway.com from May 2023 through July 2026 for between $84 and $100.
  • How to identify it: High chairs that convert into a table and chair set, in purple and white, red and white, blue and white, and brown and white. CPSC says there is no tracking information on the products, and it lists no model number or UPC.
  • Remedy (quoted from CPSC): "Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled high chairs and contact Costway for a free replacement high chair. Consumers will be asked to provide a receipt or a photo of the product and will receive a prepaid label to return the recalled product to Costway. Upon receipt of the recalled product, Costway will ship a replacement high chair free of charge."

4. CPSC Warning: Kaizou Group Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun and Squeezy Dumpling Toys (warning 27-035, Oct. 22, 2026)

This is a CPSC product safety warning, not a company recall. CPSC says it issued a Notice of Violation to the distributor, Kaizou Group Inc., of Pico Rivera, California, and that Kaizou Group "has been unresponsive to CPSC's request to recall these squishy toys or offer a remedy to consumers."

  • Units: CPSC does not give a number.
  • Hazard (CPSC): "The toys violate the mandatory safety standard for toys containing water beads, posing deadly ingestion, choking, and obstruction hazards."
  • Sold: The Rainbow Mystery Squishy Buns were sold at Easy Wholesale, of San Jose, California, for between $2.50 and $4.00. The Squeezy Dumpling toys were sold at a flea market in Galt, California. CPSC gives no sale dates.
  • How to identify them: Both are translucent, have a cartoon face and come in a tan plastic container shaped like a bamboo steamer. The squishy buns contain glitter and water beads, and the removable package label reads "Rainbow MYSTERY" and "ONE SET SUGAR EDITION." The squeezy dumplings contain multicolor water beads, and the label reads "SQUEEZY DUMPLINGS." There are no markings on the toys other than the cartoon face.
  • What CPSC says to do (quoted): "CPSC urges consumers to stop using the toys immediately and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away these hazardous products."
  • Injuries: None reported.
  • Read the CPSC warning

CPSC posted no other children's product recalls or warnings between Oct. 19 and Oct. 26, 2026. Its other Oct. 22 notices (patio heaters, light fixtures, pressure washers and adult bed rails) are not children's products.

How to check a product yourself

Search the CPSC's list at cpsc.gov/Recalls and Health Canada's database at recalls-rappels.canada.ca by brand or product name. Many of this week's products have no model number, so compare the photos and package wording on each agency notice. U.S. families can report a safety incident to CPSC at SaferProducts.gov.
