Next-Generation Woodkins Design Studio Collection
By Jodi M. Webb
April 1, 2003

While her grandmother cut out paper outfits for doll families, and her mother enjoyed dolls sporting the latest fashions, today’s girl is discovering Next-Generation Woodkins Design Studio Collection from Pamela Drake Inc. This Woodkins line combines the creative opportunities offered by grandmother’s paper dolls with the sturdiness and style of mom’s fashion dolls. Called “sassy and sophisticated,” Design Studio appeals to ages seven to Tweens and has been awarded the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award, National Parenting Center’s Seal of Approval and Dr. Toy’s “Best Vacation Toy” award.

Pat Linn of Pamela Drake Inc. describes the Design Studio line as dolls developed to “stimulate imagination and allow a child to design clothing, experiment with patterns and colors without the complexity of actual sewing.”

Design Studio introduces both male and female dolls in seven single doll sets at $18 each, and two double doll sets at $28 each. In addition to the wooden cut-out dolls, each set has everything needed to create many outfits: colorful fabrics, feathers, sequins, buttons and creative tools including stencils, glue and scissors. This year the company also introduced twelve $5 Fashion Outfits, each with an outfit and extra fabric to create accessories.

Design Studio dolls make wonderful companions for solitary play or for children and adults to enjoy together. Long after the last button is attached, children will continue to enjoy Design Studio as it switches easily from a craft kit to a toy for imaginative play.
