Gloom by ATLAS GAMES
In the Gloom card game, the goal is to suffer the greatest tragedies possible before passing on to the well-deserved respite of death. There are horrible but winning mishaps such as Pursued by Poodles or Mocked by Midgets that lower a player’s Self-Worth scores, or happy, but losing events such as marriages. The player with the lowest total Family Value wins. Printed on transparent plastic cards, Gloom features an innovative design by noted role playing game author Keith Baker. Multiple modifier cards can be played on top of the same character card; because the cards are transparent, elements from previously played modifier cards either show through or are obscured by those played above them. You´ve got to see (through) this game to believe it.
— Gloom is a great seller at the Wizard’s Chest in Denver, Colo., said owner Kevin Pohle.
— “It's a darker humored game, but well-adjusted children will understand and enjoy it,” Eric of Gamescape in San Francisco assured TDmonthly Magazine.
— “I have high hopes it will do really well; it’s the first time it’s been available at Christmas,” John Nephew, president of Atlas Games told TDmonthly. “It’s ideal for older kids and teenagers who are at the point of appreciating things morbid and ironic — especially surly teenagers with a Goth bent!” ( Watch Video) 8/15/2005 (MSRP: $21.95; Age: 8 and Up)

Uglydog by PRETTY UGLY LLC
Developed by artists David Horvath and Sun Min-Kim, this irresistible 12” to 14” tall hot pink plush creature looks like a Cyclops caught in a nuclear meltdown. The “dog” has four feet and a tail, all in a row. Made of a soft fabric akin to the inside of a fleece sweatshirt, the doll is easy to squeeze and hard to put down. Uglydoll describes the character as “the ultimate pet” because “what he really likes to do is stand on his tail and live out his big dream … to be just like you!!!” Whether full-size, half-size, swinging from a keychain, or decking a t-shirt, the Ugly Dolls are the coolest hot toy for kids of all ages.
— “They’re so popular, and across such a broad age range!” enthused Elaine Hackney, owner of J.P. Boing’s Toy Shoppe in Jamaica Plain, Mass. “They´re great. When they first came out several years ago, I didn’t think so, but I was proven wrong.”
— A TDmonthly Magazine reporter spotted a tourist at a Los Angeles airport carting off a whole bagful of the Uglies. All the retailers we called said they haven’t slowed down a bit.
— Uglydolls have been seen on CNN and The Today Show. The t-shirt is featured in the Sony picture “Zathura,” out this month. ( Watch Video) 8/23/2005 (MSRP: $20.00; Age: All Ages)
Pinky Street by VANCE PROJECT
A niche product from Japan, distributed here by DRAGON MODELS USA, Pinky Street is being collected by kids and adults in specialty comics and anime stores. Conceived as a “girl next door” fashion doll, Pinky Street figures were designed by modeler Yuki Kanaya (Baby Sue). Influenced by anime and current Tokyo fashion trends, the 4” vinyl dolls have interchangeable heads, hair, body parts, clothing and feet. Each doll comes dressed and with one extra vinyl outfit. The more Pinky Streets collected, the more mix-and-match outfit possibilities there are! Fun, imaginative and a good alternative to “brattier” fashion dolls.
Warning: Pinky Streets are collectibles, aren´t produced on a mass scale and
are sometimes in short supply, so if you think the doll is right for your
store, you should get your order in as soon as possible. ( Watch Video) 8/23/2005 (MSRP: $9.99)
Dividends by FUN FACTORY GAMES
Make your fortune on the volatile stock market through stock buying to earn dividend payouts or selling for profits. The key to success in this game lies in a player´s ability to make the most money from each stock purchase while taking into consideration the effects of supply and demand on stock prices. Although being the first-mover confers tremendous advantage, exercising major shareholder influence on dividend payouts can perhaps give a player the added edge toward financial victory!
