A book about a pill bug … plain and simple, written by Yukihisa Tokuda and illustrated by Kiyoshi Takahashi. It’s kind of a day-in-the-life of a pill bug: what they eat, what they do, why they curl up into little balls. The pictures are stylized and beautiful. The words are a little beyond the very beginning readers, but not much. This book won a Booklist Editors' Choice Award.

What Is It?
A book about a pill bug … plain and simple, written by Yukihisa Tokuda and illustrated by Kiyoshi Takahashi. It’s kind of a day-in-the-life of a pill bug: what they eat, what they do, why they curl up into little balls. The pictures are stylized and beautiful. What We Thought
My 6-year-old son likes pill bugs. This book made him want to go get a bunch of pill bugs and bring them inside. Fortunately, the book itself suggests this very thing, so we collected the bugs, put them in a jar, then read the book to them.
Why They’ll Want It
Any child interested in insects will want to read this book, and it’s a very beautiful primer for parents who like a little education with their picture books.
