Football has always been one of my favorite sports. Watching
it is always enjoyable, and, while I never really played, there is
something incredibly pleasing about throwing a ball back and forth
in the yard, or on the beach. I could do it for hours. In fact, I
have, and with a few of these products, I probably will again.

New to retail outfits, the Polar Ball has actually been used
in leagues and some organizations for quite some time. It comes in
both a “real” football size and a smaller “toy” size, and it’s basically
a football with Velcro strips attached. The ball comes with a Velcro
glove for easy catching. To be honest, at first, I didn’t think this
was a good idea. But, as it turns out, it’s really, really fun. We
got our hands on the toy size model, and have been throwing it around
the office like crazy. I took it to the beach the other day…guess
what? It’s fun there too. I spoke to inventor/patent holder Steve
Allgeier, and he claims it works in the pool as well. I’ll be reporting
on that soon. I really like the Polar Ball, and it seems others do
too: It is being used by the WFL, and in many YMCA programs.

                  Vortex® Fire Strike

If you have been to the beach recently, you have probably seen
someone playing with a Vortex. It looks like a miniature football
with a long, weird tail. I’ve played with them myself, and they are
in fact pretty cool. Flying in a spiral almost every time, they are
excellent for just about all age groups. The Vortex Fire Strike comes
with a light inside, so that you can play at night as well. In both
a continuous and strobe effect, the Fire Strike looks pretty cool
late at night as well. The Fire Strike did not hold up so well when
thrown around a parking lot, but, then again, it’s not made for that
kind of play. And, while it looks a little worse for wear, it’s still
going strong down at the beach.

Speaking of footballs that light up, Huffy Sport has released
this “traditional” ball. Building on its popular Twilight series of
basketballs, the Twilight Football has an LED (Light Emitting Diode)
embedded within it to enhance play after the sun goes down. While
looking like a traditional football, the Twilight has a translucent
exterior, which allows the LED’s light to travel throughout the whole
            ball.

Much like Huffy, Spalding has an incredible technology in its
basketballs just waiting to be picked up by other sports. And, of
course, they have done so. The Spalding Infusion Football incorporates
the built in pump technology that has made their basketballs the leader
            of the pack.
