The 5-1/2” Whirl-O uses a unique design that incorporates the principles used in toys such as yo-yos, but eliminates the inconvenience of tangling strings. “The combination of magnets and tin allows you to do various tricks, depending on the creative mind of whoever’s using it — adult or child,” said Rocket USA’s director of sales, Cesar A. Vargas. “The more you play with it, the more you learn.” The toy teaches kids about “the conservation of angular momentum, the conservation energy and magnetic forces,” Matt Hannifin, manager of Science Toy Magic in Santa Fe, N.M., told TDmonthly. His was the first toy store in the United States to carry the Whirl-O. Rocket USA is considering making an educational version of the toy, which would have an accompanying booklet.
